Pitch software refers to a wide variety of programs that work with a singers pitch. In the studio, pitch software is often applied after the recording and used to fix the vocal problems. A well known program for this is called Melodyne. Autotune is another software program performing a similar function. For live performance, in addition to fixing pitch, pitch software may be combined with chorusing or harmony. In the home studio and the studio of voice teachers, the more common form of pitch software trains the singer to sing on pitch.
New voice software for singing has rapidly risen in popularity because it is inexpensive and it works very quickly. Within a matter of ten minutes or less, most singers begin singing much more accurately. The accuracy improves with practice and the results eventually transfer from the software setting to live performances. The investment is typically less than one hundred dollars and requires a singer to train for twenty to forty minutes a week, initially. Once results stabilize, the singer may reduce training to a single ten minute session. The popularity of this type of software has risen so rapidly that a version is now available on the iPhone. However, the small screen of the iPhone does not provide the necessary neural feedback to receive optimal results. While the iPhone app is convenient for being on the go, or prior to a performance, the best results come from training in your home studio with a large screen monitor.
