I like to think I’m responsible. That I take care not to pollute the earth, by recycling, driving a fuel efficient car etc. When it comes to my kitchen I think in those same terms. I buy storage ware that isn’t plastic that I’ll toss out in a few months because it smells or it’s stained. I look for kitchen storage sets that will last for years. I use glass cutting boards to rest food on that I’m prepping like chicken, but they don’t make a good cutting surface as they dull my knives. Wood cutting boards look great, are useful, but not earth friendly. That’s the problem. I don’t want to cut down trees, so that I can have a great cutting board.
I started looking around at some other options, and I found something that remedies my problem. It’s a bamboo cutting board. Bamboo is a highly renewable resource, and it’s a great addition to my range of kitchen gadgets, kitchen utensils, kitchen tools or whatever you want to call it. I call it part of my save the earth kitchen. Bamboo cutting boards are attractive, they keep my knives nice and sharp, they do not harbor bacteria, and the do double duty for entertaining as a cheese board. The board I bought came right away, is great quality, and I’ve been using practically daily. No doubt one of my smarter purchases.
