Playground Equipment Safety Advice

Playgrounds are where most children learn to coordinate their bodies as well as learn to communicate with one another. This is why it is important for it to be a safe place. There are various ways of making your playground safe. Firstly, make sure your playground structures are not too high. If the height of the playground equipment is too high, a fall may be harmful and life-threatening. When installing new playground equipment, such as a steep ramp, make sure there are railings on each side so that no one falls.

Secondly, make your playground surface fun and safe to run and play on. For instance, loose-fill playground surfaces materials such as play sand or pea gravel. Other important things to remember are: making sure there is a protective surfacing around each piece of playground equipment, especially for swings. Verify there are no sharp edges on any equipment, as well as checking for tripping hazards. Make sure your playground equipment and structures get a maintenance check every week. Lastly but not least, make sure that there is someone supervising the children at all time.
